Studio build – Part I…

without comments

I felt that this post was a long overdue one, so here goes.

This was the sight that faced me when I first opened the door to the space – not a pretty sight to say the least :)

Right side from the door.

Left side from the door.

And finally the wall with the door.

So, it’s about 45m2 space with no windows and obnoxious colors…some work ahead then.

As you might have guessed, this isn’t a straigth-off studio space. In that case I would have searched for a bit different kind of space and nearer to where I live. But I think I can live with this quite well.

This all began because we had a smaller (about 30m2) storage space before, but the whole building was sold off so we had to search for a new one.

I suggested to my father that we could get a bigger space and split the rent in half. The final result is this beauty of a space :D

For some reason someone had cut a big hole in one of the ventilation shafts, we really don’t know the reason for this, but it’s been covered now with a plate.

The air from the bigger shaft goes into these smaller ones and now that the hole has been covered they actually do work quite well.

If you look closely you can see a massive dust build-up on the shaft. It was actually far worse on the lamps, but a few hours with a vacuum cleaner took care of that.

Of course the yellow had to go, so we washed the walls and started painting the place.

Even though most of the walls would be covered with shelves, we really didn’t want to look at that yellow and green color combination.

We started building shelves after painting them black to not stand out so much. They are solid wood shelves made by Lundia. A fine choice when it’s all put together, but sometimes the system can be a huge pain in the arse.

The bigger shelve combination is 4 meters long and about 80cm deep. It holds up an amazing amount of stuff. So much actually that its hard to believe.

Good shelves were of course paramount, since we had this much things to store away. It actually seemed a bit desperate at this point since all of the floorspace was full of stuff.

It got better though, but more on that later.

Stay tuned for part II…
